Background Checks

There are several different types of background checks available, depending on the requirement of the agency requesting the check. Individuals seeking any type of background check must verify with the requesting agency which type of background check is required.

Local Background Check

This is a Muskingum County Sheriff's Office jail booking record only. It does NOT include final disposition or the criminal record. Individuals must bring a photo ID or birth certificate and social security card. If these items are not available only a name check will be done.

Fee- $5.00
Payment Options - Cash, Cashier's Check or Money Order
Hours of Availability - Monday through Friday 8:00am to 4:00 pm

WebCheck

WebCheck is an electronic fingerprint background check and is used by agencies for a more comprehensive background check. This check is an actual criminal history background check. Individuals must appear in person and must bring a photo ID, preferably an Ohio driver's license, with their date of birth and social security number. If the ID does not have the individual's social security number on it, they must bring verification of their social security number, preferably their social security card.
There are three different WebCheck transactions available, dependent on the need of the agency requesting the check. The fees for these checks, and their contents, are outlined below.

Please note price increases effective Jan1, 2008 for BCI and Combination checks:

BCI Check - $30.00 - This check covers only criminal history information in the State of Ohio and is normally used for people who have lived in the state for 5 years or more.
FBI Check - $30.00 - This check covers criminal history information in the United States and is normally used for people who have lived in the state for less than 5 years.
BCI / FBI Check - $60.00 - This is a combination of the two checks, which some agencies require.

Payment accepted - Cash, cashier's check or money order

Hours - Monday through Friday, 9:30am to 3:30pm
