The Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center provides a vast array of services to a number of agencies and the citizens of Muskingum County. These include 9-1-1 intake, teletype and dispatch services for 6 law enforcement municipalities and 14 fire and EMS departments and serves as the county’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) for all cellular 9-1-1 calls. The Center functions 24 hours a day, 7days a week, 365 days a year. It is comprised off 11 Communications Officers who process over 66,000 calls a year.
The Communication Center is one of the most up-to-date in Ohio. It has four console positions that are all configured alike. Each position houses a variety of communications applications including, Computer Aided Dispatch with access to the Bureau of Criminal Identification (BCI), National Crime Information Center (NCIC), National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (NLETS), the Law Enforcement Agencies Data System (LEADS) and the Ohio Law Enforcement Gateway (OHLEG). They also include a Digital Recording System for instant call retrieval, a radio system with 6 channels including MARCS, and 2 phone systems for emergency and non-emergency calls. They also monitor video for door and building security and local news and weather. The Communications Center is also responsible for activating the County’s weather sirens.
The Communications Center works closely with neighboring Sheriff’s offices, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Zanesville Police Department, Ohio Department of Natural Resources, and the Genesis Healthcare System Police Department. To varying degrees, the Communications Center provides services to the Muskingum County Highway Department, Muskingum County Emergency Management Agency, Muskingum County Adult Probation, Muskingum County Prosecutor’s Office, Muskingum County Dog Warden, Community Ambulance Service, Muskingum County Coroner, the National Weather Service, and several tow/wrecker agencies.
