On August 29, 2005
Hurricane Katrina made landfall near New Orleans, Louisiana as a Category
3 hurricane. Devastation and destruction marred the entire gulf coast
in the aftermath. Law enforcement agencies from across the United States
volunteered to assist local law enforcement in any way possible. The
Muskingum County Sheriff's Office deployed 12 individuals to assist
in the effort. They included Sheriff Bob Stephenson, Capt. Joe Miller,
Det. Lt. Steve Welker, Lt. Randy Wilson, Sgt. Brady Hittle, Det. Ron
Buchanan, Det. Fred Curry, Dep. Tim Matheny, Dep. Tony Angelo, Dep.
Phil Michel, Dep. Gary Hargraves and Communications Supervisor Kim Hambel.
